I had my first lesson observation for Chinese Language B. I did not conduct the class as well as what I did normally as I have missed out doing a proper introduction and a proper closure for the class. However, I am really thankful to have the opportunity to be observed by a senior who had given me valuable advice and guidance.
Areas of Improvement
1. Teaching Pedagogy
The senior teacher has advised me on a more interesting way to engage the students. For example, instead of showing points to them on the powerpoint slides, I could have printed the points on some sheets of paper, and have them stick the points under relevant headings. In addition, I can also ask questions through simple games which would enable the students to stay more alert in class.
2. Explore Various Teaching Platforms
There are various teaching platforms available and I need to explore different options to find an ideal avenue to conduct the lessons. It is important for us to be familiar with the teaching resources available so that we can fully utilise them to maximise students' learning.
3. Maximise the Opportunities for Students to Speak Up
I need to ask the students more questions and guide them into telling me the correct answers instead of me being the one in front, addressing the class and leading the discussions.
