First Day of Practicum!

And so, I was too nervous the night before and it took me 2 hours to finally fall asleep. I arrived at Zhenghua Secondary School 45 minutes before the stipulated time as I stayed really far from the school, I left my house at 6am to ensure that I would not be late.

We (me and the other trainee teachers) were greeted warmly by our School Coordinating Mentor, Ms Rafiyah. She briefed us about what is expected of us and the administrative matters. She was really friendly and helpful! I felt really relieved after talking to her.

I spent the other half of the day preparing for my future lessons and met up with my Cooperating Teachers. I would start teaching on Thursday! :)

This was hung up in the General Office and I really liked it. I shall keep this in mind and use it as my guide.

My First Day of Proper Teaching

Today was my first day of proper teaching (not to mention those relief duties)! I have enjoyed it very much!

I conducted classes for 2E1 and 2N1. Ms Liew had given me worksheets for the students to practise on, thus I did little preparation and all I have done was to type in the answers for the worksheet and put them into Powerpoint presentations.

Class 2E1 was very cooperative and they were very interested in learning and tried their very best to complete the worksheet in time. I went through the answers with them and gave them homework.

Class 2N1, however, was slightly more difficult to handle as they struggled with the worksheets quite a lot. A few boys were also not paying attention while I went through the answers but I could understand because the projector was not working and I was not able to show the answers on the screen for the students thus they had problems following. I should have borrowed visualizer from the other teachers before class to ensure that the students were able to follow the lesson better. Nonetheless, I made copies of the answers for them and hopefully they would find them helpful.

I look forward to conducting more lessons with them and would be better prepared the next time.
